Volusia Blue Spring Alliance Springshed Academy, Fall 2015

The Blue Spring Alliance is pleased to announce that the Springshed Academy will be offered this year beginning on October 7, 2015. This free class will be limited to 20 participants, so please register early to secure your spot! The class will meet weekly on Wednesdays from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm for four class sessions. In addition, two field trips will be scheduled. The class will meet at the Lyonia Environmental Center, which is adjacent to the Deltona Regional Library (located at 2150 Eustace Avenue, Deltona FL).

The Springshed Academy is open to local citizens, educators, elected officials and business owners, and will cover water quality, water quantity and supply, ecological health of the spring, Florida geology, how springs work, and how they are impacted by development. The class will also teach methods of how to effectively lead outreach and educational programs. Participants will learn what they can do to protect the Floridan Aquifer and Blue Spring.

Graduates of the Academy will become Springshed Ambassadors, and are expected to give talks in the community about Blue Spring and the springshed. These talks can be given to a church, school, club, City Council, or other similar venue. Ambassadors are encouraged to help with outreach programs and to volunteer at Blue Spring.
