Do you want to learn more about how to landscape with native plants? Then join Ellen Thoms and Jill McGuire of the Paynes Prairie Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society (FNPS) for a fun and informative presentation – “Meet the Natives.” Attendees will receive a free copy of the full-color guide “Native Landscaping in North Central Florida” developed by FNPS with assistance from experts in the Paynes Prairie Chapter. Attendees will learn how to use this guide to select the right native plant for the right place to enhance the beauty of yards and to attract birds and butterflies. The presentation will be from 6:30-7:30 pm on Wednesday, April 10th at the North Florida Springs Environmental Center. Come at 6 pm for social time and to explore the outdoor garden.
This presentation is being made prior to the 2019 Spring Native Plant Sale at Morningside Nature Center in Gainesville. This plant sale will be open to the public, free of charge, Saturday, April 20, from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm. This sale is a great opportunity to purchase a variety of native plants, many of which are not readily available at local retail stores. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of this native plant sale organized by the Paynes Prairie Chapter of FNPS, The City of Gainesville’s Nature Operation, and Friends of Nature Parks, additional activities will be offered. Activities include free nature walks led by experts, a food truck, live music, and information booths hosted by local environmental and conservation organizations. FNPS hopes to see you there!
