Florida’s Changing Waters: A Beautiful World in Peril
by Lynne Buchanan
“With unspoken irony, Lynne Buchanan’s photographs expose the toxic destruction of Florida’s inland waters and coastal areas in a devastating indictment of unrestrained industrialization and reckless development. She has crisscrossed the state to find and bear witness to the devastation that we might see, understand, and be moved to action to remediate the situation in this state, which is a bellwether for the rest of the country.” —Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
Join the Florida Springs Institute on Wednesday, May 15th for an Environmental Center Night featuring author and photographer Lynne Buchanan. Doors will open at 6 PM. Following an introduction by Dr. Robert Knight at 6:30 PM, Lynne will provide a brief talk about her new book, Florida’s Changing Waters: A Beautiful World in Peril. Following the talk, books will be available for purchase and signing for $45 each.
ABOUT THE BOOK
Florida’s Changing Waters: A Beautiful World in Peril not only showcases the beauty, diversity, and complexity of Florida’s waters, but also documents the negative effects of agricultural and industrial pollution, a growing population with its urban growth and land development, and climate change on Florida’s inland and coastal waters and springs. Though her work is place specific, the book reveals the interconnected and global nature of environmental problems.
The book, published by George F. Thompson Publishing includes an essay and text by Lynne, as well as essays by Jason M. Evans, an associate professor of environmental science and studies at Stetson University in Deland, Florida and Robert L. Knight the Executive Director of the Howard T. Odum Florida Springs Institute.
