Springs Outing: Ichetucknee River Paddle
August 25 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pmFree
Springs outing details:
Springs Outings are monthly guided expeditions to springs, rivers, or parks in the north and central Florida regions! Spring Outing locations usually stand out for their unique trails, waterways, geology, and hydrogeology, giving the group much to learn about Florida’s terrain and it’s rich history.
August 2018 Springs Outing will be a guided paddle tour on the Ichetucknee River led by Dr. Bob Knight, Executive Director of the Florida Springs Institute. We will be launching from the North Entrance and taking out at Dampier’s Landing.
The Ichetucknee River, located in Florida’s Springs Heartland, is formed by the cumulative groundwater discharge from nine named artesian springs. From upstream to downstream the named springs include: Ichetucknee (Head Spring), Cedar Head, Blue Hole (Jug), Mission Group (Roaring and Singing), Devil’s Eye, Grassy Hole, Mill Pond and Coffee. Of these named springs, Blue Hole has the largest discharge. This is a beautiful paddle and a “must” to check off of your bucket list before the summer ends! Whether this is your first time paddling the Ichetucknee or you’re already in love with it and want to learn more about the Ichetucknee spring system, this is your perfect Springs Outing!
