Springs Outing – Big Grungy Hike

Ring in the New Year with a Springs Outing! Join us on Saturday January 11th for a hike out to the “Big Grungy” swallet. This little-known swallet (sink hole) is a spot for seasoned cave divers and is quite beautiful this time of year when the water tends to be clearer. Tom Morris will lead us on our ~2 mile hike through some exceptionally beautiful hardwood forests. The woods are generally quite open and easy to walk through where we will slowly explore on our way to Big Grungy .

We will meet at the FSI office at 10am and drive roughly 3 miles north on Hwy 441 to the park where there is plenty of parking. Appropriate hiking attire (clothes and shoes), a packed lunch, and yourself is all you need. Start 2020 off right by getting outside and exploring Florida’s karst features with us!

COST: $20.00

Meetup location is the Howard T. Odum Florida Springs Institute North Florida Environmental Center, 23695 US Hwy 27 High Springs, FL

If you have signed up, you can expect a final details email the week prior to the event. Thank you!

About FSI Springs Outings – The goal of FSI’s Springs Outing program is to connect nature lovers with the outdoors while giving them the opportunity to learn about Florida’s springs and the threats facing them. Each outing is led by a qualified expert/scientist and holds a new adventure. Proceeds from Spring Outings benefit the Florida Springs Institute so we can continue vital springs research and education efforts.

The event is finished.
