mission & PURPOSE

The mission of the Silver Springs Environmental Center (SSEC) is to advance and share fundamental and strategic scientific knowledge to support the viability of freshwater resources in Florida and beyond, including springs, rivers, lakes, and groundwater aquifers.

The SSEC will provide a statewide venue for springs interpretation, outreach, education, and research. Specific activities at the Center will include the following:

    • Public education about springs and groundwater issues through exhibits, literature, seminars, and programs.
    • High school and college-level classes on springs ecology and management.
    • Applied research on springs structure and functions and methods for protection and restoration.
