In November 2022, FSI moved into a new location on Main Street in High Springs, Florida. The new, larger space has exceeded our expectations! Currently, FSI is under a long-term lease with an option to purchase the building.

FSI is seeking $500,000 in private donations over the next three years to support the purchase and build out of the Florida Springs Welcome Center.

The Florida Springs Welcome Center is located in the “Springs Heartland” of Florida. High Springs is known for proximity to the largest concentration of first magnitude springs in the world, with nearby springs and springs groups such as Ichetucknee, Devil’s Eye, Peacock, Troy, Poe, and Gilchrist Blue.

Positioned on Main Street in historic downtown High Springs, the Florida Springs Welcome Center has over 4,000 square feet of air-conditioned space, with a large storage space and fenced-in back yard. FSI moved into the new building in November 2022 and documented over 1,000 visitors in the first 6 months of being open to the public.

Securing this real estate asset has a significant impact on our programming, with space for:

  • Public and private K-12 education about springs and groundwater isssues through classes, exhibits, literature, seminars, and meetings.
  • High School and college-level classes on springs ecology and management.
  • Springs classes for concerned citizens.
  • Proactive efforts for springs protection and recovery, including community outreach and springshed restoration
  • Applied research on springs structure and function and methods for protection and restoration.
  • Desk and event space for other non-profits with related goals for springs/freshwater protection.
