A few months ago we received an email from Lee Hogan, a bicyclist from Tennessee who was preparing to set out on an 800-mile “springs bike tour” to raise awareness for springs protection.
Lee told us the story of how he fell in love with Florida’s springs during his time in college at the University of Florida and how he revisited the sunshine state numerous times with his children so they could share his same love for the springs. But Lee said over the years he began to notice a visible decline in the beauty of the springs he and his family visited and he felt the need to take action.
During the these last few months, Florida Springs Institute staff have been working with Lee to plan his route, picking springs along the way and doing our best to help him become a springs expert before he embarked on his three-week long trip. Two days ago marked the start of his journey and our team had the honor of sending him off with all of our support.
Thank you for going above and beyond in the name of springs protection, Lee! You’re a true inspiration to us all.
Lee has us on speed dial and plans to update us as often as possible. Follow his journey on our Facebook page and ask yourself, what can YOU do to save our springs?
