Creature From the Black Lagoon
On Friday, February 17th, 2023, the Florida Springs Institute will be screening Creature from the Black Lagoon at the new Florida Springs Welcome Center in downtown High Springs, Florida.
This movie event is in honor of the late Ginger Stanley Hallowell, who recently passed away on January 19th, 2023. Ginger was an icon of Florida’s springs tourism. Ginger was a professional mermaid at Weeki Wachee Springs (admitted to the Mermaid Hall of Fame in 2012) and an underwater model at Silver Springs for Bruce Mozert, a pioneer in underwater photography. Ginger Stanley appears in both Creature from the Black Lagoon, filmed at Wakulla Springs, and its sequel Revenge of the Creature, which was filmed at Silver Springs. Ginger was an underwater stunt double/swimmer in both of these films.
The doors to the Florida Springs Welcome Center will open at 6:00 pm and the film will start promptly at 6:30 pm. The event will end at 8:00 pm. We will serve light refreshments (popcorn!). The event is free to attend. If you are able to donate, we request a $10 – $20 donation to help cover the costs of putting on the event. Donations may be made by registering for the event.
