Springs Outing: Gators of The Springs

Explore the breathtaking natural springs of Florida, known for their crystal-clear waters, vibrant ecosystems, and diverse wildlife. Among the remarkable inhabitants are American Alligators, which thrive in a variety of aquatic environments, including marshes, swamps, rivers, lakes, and springs. Springs with limited visibility, abundant vegetation, or a rich food source are often prime spots for alligator sightings. At Silver Springs State Park, our outing destination, it is common to see many gators sunbathing along the banks and swimming across the river. Please note that while we hope to see alligators, nut sightings are not guaranteed. We will be led by FWC Fish and Wildlife Research Institute Crocodilian Team member, Joseph Ricketts. Joseph will be discussing the presence of alligators in springs ecosystems, their biology, and conservation efforts during our two-hour paddle of the Silver River. After our adventure, we’ll have a lunch of Publix Subs (choices include ham, turkey, and veggie) and an assortment fruit at the picnic tables.

Your ticket purchase helps us offset the costs of staffing this event, the lunch we offer, and the rental fee for your chosen vessel. Park entry is NOT included in your ticket price, so please bring that with you (see the park entry breakdown below).

*All attendees under the age of 18 will need to be accompanied by an adult. *

Cancellation Policy:
Attendees may cancel without penalty by notifying at least 7 days within the start of the outing. To cancel or reschedule, please contact us at (386) 454-9369 during office hours or send an email to at cderringer@floridaspringsinstitute.org. Late cancellations will not receive a refund.
